If you are trying to adopt a child, you want your new spouse to adopt your child and you want the child’s natural mother or father’s parental rights terminated, we recommend having an attorney handle it for you. Adoptions are procedurally very strict and if non-compliance is found, you risk having to start all over. Furthermore, retaining an attorney will save you the emotional hardship of dealing with it all.
At Rooney & Rooney, P.A., we have several years of experience with handling adoptions and termination of parental rights and we know how difficult it is to handle the emotions that are tied to these matters. We help our client by building their case for them so they do not have to worry about that while dealing with the stress of the emotions that come with it.
Adoption is the process of becoming the legal parent of a child who is genetically not your own. Adoption can occur for many different reasons, but the most common is step-parent adoption in which the new spouse of a child’s mother or father adopts the child. The natural mother or father of the child must then either give up his/her parental rights or the State of Florida must take them away from this person in order for this to occur. Once adoption is completed, the person adopting the child becomes the parent of that child and a new birth certificate is issued.
