What is Uninsured Motorist (UM) Coverage?
Uninsured/Under Insured Motorist, or UM, Coverage is an insurance option which covers certain gaps in automotive insurance; particularly when the other party does not have insurance or adequate coverage for injuries they caused to you in an auto accident.
Isn’t PIP insurance enough?
Even though PIP insurance is required by Florida law, the coverage is limited; UM insurance is something drivers should have. There are many motorists out there with inadequate or lacking insurance altogether. UM is what will protect you when the other driver’s Bodily Injury Insurance (BI) has been exhausted, if any, and you still have losses.
Can I carry only UM on my insurance policy?
No. You cannot insure yourself more than you insure others.
Are there other ways to protect myself with insurance?
There are many things people do not realize when buying insurance. Don’t be afraid to ask your insurance agent questions. There are also things that an attorney can easily see which an insurance agent might miss. Be sure to have your insurance policy reviewed. Come meet us BEFORE you NEED us! Rooney & Rooney, P.A.
